The notion is that progress and the things we value in Life are attained vis-a-vis conflict and struggle and that to learn or focus on such things that make up Human culture are a Siren's song which baits one into inaction, frivolity, or unwise course changes. But culture, as it is a sum of art, music, dance, literature, and religion/philosophy, is a reflection of the Human experience. To marginalize the importance of culture is to diminish our own Being. It's why an appreciation of the value of aesthetics and an education in the Humanities is a foundation upon which a true Human Being is laid. Ever since the 'Big Bopper' coined the term 'music video' in 1959, the art style of blending music with moving images has become a cultural staple in America - with early pieces by The Beatles and especially Jim Morrison of The Doors (who famously attended film school at UCLA) and produced a series of excellent conceptual videos to several of their hit songs. By 1981 with the creation of MTV, every band was producing a music video to coincide with the release of their singles. And despite the disappearance of MTV (because it was never about the music but always about the money) music videos have remained forever a mode of expression alongside the songs they parade. Here I place some select samples from around the World in hopes that you may enjoy yourself if you perchance come across them. I choose them based on either their cinematic beauty, their cultural significance or the transcendental theme of the song itself or, as in most cases, a combination thereof.
Superbly shot and edited musical tribute to the infamous Mongolian General and Statesman, Dschinghis Khan by the German band of the same name. It's a catchy tune and the video contains several historical easter eggs relating to the "Supreme Progenitor".
Something told me this band was Australian but they are Dutch. They are singing about an ancient Earth Goddess who is held to be the Daughter of Tengri, The Great Blue Sky. Is it about the vanity of the Gods or is about their indifference to us Human insects?
Beautifully sung Norse ballad and Volksang performed in Danish by Amelie Bruun of the dark metal project, Myrkur. It is the tale of Thor traveling through Helheim seeking directions from Hel as to the location of Jotunheim, the realm of the Giants.

Without question one of the most cinematic and artistically complete videos I have ever seen matched with equally aesthetic music. It's amaze-balls. Being a music video produced by a clothing company, it is certainly their Magnum Opus.
OTYKEN - Storm
Siberian Grrl band Otyken, in a way they are my People. My 'Y' chromosome heralds from near Lake Baikal in Russland. I picked this track to represent them because of Ole Grrl's screaming. I like her screams and howls. In fact I like all the noises her mouth makes. They are essentially Siberian hippie chicks. The deserve big props for doing this gig in the freezing fucking cold in what I presume is the Lake Baikal Region.
An absolutely heavenly song encompassed in one shot. This is for all of you who long for Summerland and Home. The band and their music make me think of Appalachia and how the Human Spirit can always overcome the vexation of poverty. Forgive them the occasional focus issue on this piece. It's a hard thing to accomplish.

At first, I thought this was some sort of Irish Gaelic smash going on but turns out it's a clutch of Latvians singing about Midsummer and how fucking cool oak trees are. It's a 4 and 1/2-minute-long Hare Krishna chant with drums and bladder pipes except it doesn't take you to that interesting place that chanting Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna takes you to.

The editor of this piece deserves a medal. Encompassing multiple settings, camera angles and focal lengths, the cut is flawless and deserves the highest praise. The quality of the edit is enough to warrant one to take four minutes of their Life and indulge themselves notwithstanding the red-headed Sarmation Dancing Grrl...sluuuurp.
I love the striped shirts, tyelnashky as they are called - tyelnashka being the singular in the feminine gender. I got a couple of them. They fit tight around the arms. European clothes for men are like that for some reason-totally different cut; I was like wtf! Anywho, watch the Russian Sailor Dance. I wonder if the shorty that comes out to do a solo is really a Woman disguised as a man as a nod to the occasional historical anecdote of such a thing being the case.

The Arab Dabka dance has several variations and is believed to be a centuries old custom most often performed during celebrations. The variations tended once to be segregated between Women and Men but in current times are becoming less so with even some Women dancing as the lawweeh. I dig it. This looks like great fun. A true example of a unique cultural activity.

I love black. I love round hats and I love beautiful, petite Asian dancing grrls, especially Vietnamese. Imagine these five chicks in a hot tub for long time after a long, hot day of fighting the Cong. It's good we are not fighting the Cong any longer that way these nice Ladies can dance in Peace. I love Witchy Women. Perhaps it's the abundance of Scottish Hexen in my family. This is a popular dance for Walpurtgisnacht in which the Witches come out and "schuettel ihren Speck" which is to say, "They shake their stuff". You might ask, "well why would those nice Ladies want to do that?" Well, you know. You know why. Everybody knows why.

Considered by many to be the greatest novel ever written but you might say, "But, Sir, it's over 1200 pages long." and you would be correct but it reads fast because it's the best novel ever written. If you ever only read one novel in your Lifetime, read this one. People who had thought you only a miserable dullard will shit themselves.
Despite its reputation as children's literature, WATERSHIP DOWN, by Richard Adams, contains some very interesting religious and socio-political allegories. Engaging and vivid, it's won multiple awards in literature and has been voted, by the British Public, as one of the top fifty books of all time. That's pretty good for a piece that was nearly never published. If you don't know this piece, don't judge the book by its cover.
Being a narrative of some of the adventures, dangers and sufferings of a Revolutionary Soldier by Sgt Joseph Plumb Martin, this extraordinary work is the only known extant account of the American War for Independence authored by an enlisted Soldier. Sgt. Martin served almost the entire conflict in the Connecticut Line. This is a must read for any and every American Patriot.

Excerpt from a disturbing film entitled, "Nanjing! Nanjing! City of Life and Death". I've seen a similar procession portrayed in a film about the occupation of Indonesia so evidently such events were a thing. In the video the soldiers are approaching a group of others bearing the funerary urns of dead troopers they are commemorating. The events in this film depict events that occurred during "The Rape of Nanking" in which invading Japanese Troops of the Empire of Japan committed many documented acts of brutality and what by modern sensible standards were war crimes.
A vibrant print by Leonard "El-dragg" Okwoju, a Nigerian painter. He tends toward colorful portraits of Women, I assume because he's a Playa. When your paintings go for around $10K USD, you can afford to play. I've always felt African Art, in general, tends toward the colorful and is extremely Humanistic.
